Welcome to the October 38 Bulletin, bringing together community news, stories, events, and practical resources for Mountain Home Village, Forest Falls, Angelus Oaks, and beyond.

As the season changes, this issue focuses on staying informed, preparing for changing mountain conditions, and looking out for one another.

When the Weather Changes, Mountain Life Changes With It

Before heading down the hill, think about the trip home.

A change in the weather can change the day’s plans when you live in the mountains. Rain, road conditions, and getting where we need to go become part of the same conversation.

A trip down the hill also means planning for the trip home. Family members or pets may be waiting, and an unexpected road closure can leave someone without a place to stay. Before leaving, arrange a backup contact who can help at home and consider where you could stay if your return is delayed.

Before heading out, check the forecast and your route. Caltrans provides state highway conditions through QuickMap. San Bernardino County’s Stay Informed page connects residents with emergency alerts and road information. Check again before starting the return trip, as conditions may have changed.

If you encounter a flooded road, turn around. Water can hide a damaged roadway, and moving water can sweep a vehicle away. Visit the National Weather Service’s flood safety page for practical guidance.

And take a moment to check on a neighbor. A phone call, an offer to pick up supplies, or sharing a trusted update can make a difference when plans change.
